In a process of a psychotherapeutic counselling we are usually dealing with a current crisis that is at that very moment negatively effecting client's life. First we clearly outline the problem at hand and decide on our goal. Through conversation the client then has to be very aware of their thoughts, feelings and free associations. That way they actively face a problem and the counsellor supports them, guides them and together they explore the difficult situation. It serves as a way of promoting personal growth, happiness, better self-image and conscious decision of one’s reactions. So what is even the difference between psychotherapy and counselling? Psychotherapy is normally a much longer and more in-depth process than counselling. Sometimes people would start just by coming to counselling and then deciding it does not suffice, so they eventually opt for psychotherapy.
