Online Psychotherapy

Online psychotherapy
Online therapy is psychotherapy that takes place over the internet. Services can be offered over the phone, through video conferencing, or messaging, rather than in person.
Many people worry if it’s possible for the client and the therapist to forge a trustworthy relationship and a good working alliance. The answer is yes; bond can definitely be established, as online therapy is very similar to the one in person.

As with all things in life, there are some pros and some cons. The latter being technical difficulties as well as the fact that a few things (i.e. mannerism, the exact tone of voice and such) may be lost without in-person meeting.
But luckily, we have a few pros as well. First of all, online therapy can be very convenient as it can take less time away from your work environment. Another plus is you do not have to be concerned about the commute. It can also offer another layer of safety for people who suffer from severe social anxiety or any other condition that prohibits them from leaving their own home.

It is worth noting that not every branch of therapy nor every therapist is a good match for every client. That is why we always first meet for an introduction session where we explain our way of work and the client gets an opportunity to see if they can connect with the therapist.

What is Psychotherapy?
In a psychoanalytical psychotherapy we are trying to achieve an ability of being capable of facing your problems and fears, start understanding them and consciously resolve them. Psychoanalysis strives to bring your unconscious conflicts to the surface, which leads to a person becoming more accepting of oneself and at peace with their own imperfection.

Freud deemed a person as a creature that does not fully have their mind process under a perfect control. He spoke of the unconscious – a person is only aware of a small part of their psyche, whereas the bigger piece is buried deep within and often works against person’s conscious wishes. In psychoanalytical therapy we try to explore the unconscious, make it lose control over you and give you an opportunity to form different behavioural patterns. Therefore, therapy is a process in which through the power of words and the forming of a therapeutic relationship (or therapeutic alliance) a person grows, starts understanding oneself and is given unconditional support and corrective emotional experience. It is important to note that therapy does not equal giving out advice. It is a long and mentally incredibly hard process that requires a good measurement of motivation and renouncing.

Psychotherapeutic counselling
In a process of a psychotherapeutic counselling we are usually dealing with a current crisis that is at that very moment negatively effecting client’s life. First we clearly outline the problem at hand and decide on our goal. Through conversation the client then has to be very aware of their thoughts, feelings and free associations. That way they actively face a problem and the counsellor supports them, guides them and together they explore the difficult situation. It serves as a way of promoting personal growth, happiness, better self-image and conscious decision of one’s reactions. So what is even the difference between psychotherapy and counselling? Psychotherapy is normally a much longer and more in-depth process than counselling. Sometimes people would start just by coming to counselling and then deciding it does not suffice, so they eventually opt for psychotherapy.
